Mental health is a term used to describe our emotional well being, and how well we see the world and react to it. For the most part, our mental health guides us through our daily lives, keeping us in step with the things around us. It allows us to be productive on our jobs, to be able to handle stressful situations, and live well in general. A good mental health will lead to good decisions and relationships, while bad mental heath may lead to the opposite.
Our mental health can be threatened by outside stimuli such as alcohol and drugs. Addiction to either of those two things will disrupt our normal flow of life. There are other disruptions also that can effect our emotions, and in turn our mental health. Panic attacks affect 4.7 percent of people, and often make it to where they plan their lives around the attacks. This can break down their relationships and ultimately, themselves.
Social phobias affect quite a large number of people. About twelve percent of the population may avoid social situations because of this phobia. Alcoholism affects 13.2 percent of people, and may also be the cause of torn relationships and lives. Many of these people go through years of mental illness before they ever know they have one and seek treatment. Some are never treated.
Good mental health is what all of us want and should have in order to have the very best life. Read up on mental health and become familiar with the warning signs of mental illness, so you can take steps before it can grab hold of you or someone you love.
