While doing research, you will find many definitions of mental health. Different cultures have different definitions of the condition. Wikipedia describes mental health as a "term used to describe either a level of cognitive or emotional well-being or an absence of a mental disorder." This is a very broad definition. The World Health Organization is a little more descriptive, stating that mental health
is "a state of well-being in which the individual realizes his or her own abilities, can cope with the normal stresses of life, can work productively and fruitfully, and is able to make a contribution to his or her community.” From just these two sources, we can figure out that the definition of mental health is not easily narrowed down. Here are some descriptions of a mentally healthy individual.
A mentally healthy person has the ability to enjoy life even though they have stresses like everyone else. They can cope with all the stresses that come with life and still be happy. Also, mentally healthy people have more balance in their lives. They know what they can handle, when to say no to someone or something, and can manage responsibilities.
Another characteristic of mentally healthy people is that they can be flexible; flexible with their schedule and flexible with their thinking. They can accept another person's point of view without compromising their own. People who are rigid in their thinking and ideas, as well as in their scheduling, have a lot more internal stress than those who can be flexible and go with the flow when necessary.
