When it comes to mental disorders, there are many different types. One of the most common mental disorders can be classified as a mood disorder and is called depression. With depression, a person generally has an overwhelming sense of sad emotions or a sense of unworthiness. Depression many times can be become more severe and is known as major depression, bipolar or dysthymia. There are many treatment options available to help with the symptoms of depression.
Anxiety is also classified as a type of mental disorder. With anxiety issues, one may become very nervous, anxious or fearful of certain situations. Other forms of anxiety disorders include post traumatic stress disorder, social anxiety and obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD). When anxiety interferes with normal life activity, one of the above may be present.
Eating disorders are yet another type of mental disorder that affects the body. This type of disorder is centered around weight and food. Anorexia occurs when a person is fearful of gaining weight and barely eats in hopes of becoming thinner. Bulimia is another type of eating disorder where a person eats food and then forces them self to vomit. Most eating disorders affect young girls and women.
Addiction disorders are also common among many people. This is when a person cannot resist an urge or impulse and perform acts that can be harmful to themselves or others. Examples of this type of disorder include addictions to drugs and alcohol. Addiction disorders can really interfere with personal life events and become the direct cause of failed relationships.
