Common Mental Health Disorders

Mental Health is a very important topic in the world today. We have become a society of fast food and fast life.

Depression is one of the most common mental health disorders today, it affects millions of people in our country. When you do not give your body and mind a chance to relax, you may begin to experience depression. Another very common disorder is eating, Anorexia and Bulimia are extreme examples of this type of disorder. Most of us may experience a very simple version of this disorder, but it never develops completely. There is a condition that has also been showing an increase in the population, it is called Seasonal Affective Disorder. This condition is actually triggered by the change of seasons. It can manifest as a type of depression, with mood swings and other symptoms. Learning disorders also fall into the category of mental health disorders. These can include learning and reading issues; this affects our ability to learn and can actually manifest into other conditions later in life. One of the issues that are on the increase today is Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. This affects children primarily; if left untreated, it can disrupt the child’s life. Many people today have some mild type of mental health disorder, yet it is not at a level that can negatively impact our lives. Mental Health is still looked upon today as a sympathy illness, it is ignored or hidden away.

Mental issues cover the spectrum from physical to emotional, they can be caused by drug abuse or accidents. No matter what the cause though, they need to be treated and not ignored.
